Course Catalog Description:: Topics specified in Class Schedule.
Class Notes:: This class will meet entirely online. Options to meet in person will be determined after first class meetings.
Class Description:: In this course, students examine the medium of the graphic novel, which is inherently rich in visual, narrative and linguistic components. We will question how the medium is used to navigate conditions of violence, memory, mourning, and politics. Since most of the graphic novels we will read are from different geopolitical contexts students will discuss a range of national and international conflicts and their histories including World War II, Vietnam War, and Islamic Revolution in Iran. Students will also explore how these conflicts and histories impact their own generation. All course materials will be in English. No prior training in any specific language required.
