It aims to begin development of communication skills in Japanese. The following topics are covered in this semester: 1. Meeting people for the first time 2. Shopping and eating out 3. Describing activities and extending/declining invitations 4. Describing locations and things in the past 5. Making offers and talking about travel 6. Making a request, asking for/giving permission, and talking about rules The course will cover lessons 1 through 6 of Genki including both dialogue/grammar and reading/writing. It is expected that, by the end of this semester, students will have basic conversation skills in situations like those noted above, as well as rudimentary literacy in Japanese.
