Scientific study of the mind in terms of representation and processing of information. Research and theory on cognitive abilities such as perception, attention, memory, language, and reasoning. Aspects of computational modeling and neural systems. prereq: 1001
Class Description:
This course provides an overview of the scientific study of the mind, in terms of mental representation of information and mental processing of that information. It covers research and theory on cognitive abilities, including perception, attention, learning, memory, language, reading, problem solving, reasoning, and choice. Although cognitive functions are emphasized, relevant aspects of computational modeling and the underlying neural systems are treated as well. Emphasis is placed on basic research and contemproary issues, although the relevant historical background is covered briefly. This course is intended for undergraduate sudents.
