Course Catalog Description:: This course will examine popular and rock music from the 1960's to the present, focusing specifically on analysis and theory of primary musical domains of form, harmony and melody, rhythm, and timbre. Students will hone transcription skills, as well as thoughtfully address cultural background surrounding the compositions and issues of canon formation. Students will demonstrate their fluency in analytical skills and theoretical content through weekly readings and discussions, analytical assignments, and a final research project.
