- Theories and practices of interpersonal, small group, organizational, and scientific and technical communication. Lecture, discussion, simulations, small group work.
- Class Description:
- Surveys the field of communication theory. Major topic areas include theories of language and non-verbal communication, models of relational communication, and reflections on differences between older and newer media or modes of communication (e.g., speaking vs. writing; conventional print vs. digital text). In addition to introducing the theories, the course seeks to develop competencies in evaluating and applying them in the analysis of communication in various contexts including face-to-face conversations, ongoing interpersonal relationships, and digitally mediated interactions.
