Course Catalog Description:: This seminar will explore diverse types of communication that both shape and are shaped by medicine including essays, infographics, videos, and podcasts. We will also visit the University of Minnesota's Owen H. Wangensteen Historical Library of Biology and Medicine to explore the unique resources that UMN offers those interested in writing, health, and medicine and several guest speakers will be invited to the course to share their real life experiences with medicine and communication. Ultimately, we will work together to define the role and value of writing and communicating within health and medicine. To do so, we will examine technical communication and popular genres written for a variety of audiences ranging from medical experts to the general public.
