Class Description:
We represent bodies all the time in ads, movies, paintings, on tv, on Instagram and Snapchat. So, what's the big deal? And how is that political? Come find out. This class will tackle some big questions about the body: What is a body? What is a human body? How has philosophy, science, and art conceived of and represented bodies? How do our minds relate to our own bodies? Are we all really just machines being controlled by a soul, or is the body something else that we have yet to understand?
Who Should Take This Class?:
This course is for students who are prepared to think deeply and concertedly about the history of the body, and about how our conceptions of bodies relate to our lives today.
