Class Description:
What makes something hilarious? Is laughing important? What role does comedy have in our individual and collective lives? This class will be fun, funny, and serious (but not too serious). We will investigate not only how comedy works through essays on comedy, but will also do so by reading and watching a lot of stand-up, sit-coms, films, internet memes, and so on. Ultimately, we will ask the big questions: Why do we have comedy? and Can comedy affect real and meaningful change in our world?
