- Literary movements that emerge when group of writers puts forth new definition of literature. Literary movements created by scholars after the fact. Focuses on one or two related movements (e.g., surrealism, dadaism).

- Class Description:
- This section of Reading Literary Movements will engage with literary movements in relation to the Environmental Humanities and environmental activism. We'll consider theories of reading and varieties of contemporary environmental literature (cli-fi, ecopoetry, nature writing) and we'll also explore historical periods/movements (realism, romanticism, postcolonialism) involved in thinking about contemporary environmentalism.
- Who Should Take This Class?:
- This is a class that develops skills in close reading, literary analysis, and developing interpretive claims. These skills will be exercised in a variety of shorter writing assignments and students will also apply them in writing essays. Students can expect to discuss details of essays in class and to engage in the practice of close reading as a group and in other small group formations.
