Course Catalog Description:: Environmental issues students will have to address in their future careers. Small group discussion, in-depth/focused intellectual debate. Topics depend on faculty selection or student interest. prereq: Jr
Class Notes:: COURSE DESCRIPTION Through readings, lectures, discussions, written assignments, and presentations, this course introduces the critical issues underpinning climate change and its environmental impacts and implications. The course examines evidence of human-induced climate change, with the major focus on climate change effects on a wide range of natural and human systems and processes, and social and economic consequences. The course also briefly examines potential policy responses to global change and political processes. We will use Minnesota as a regional-scale case study to go along with our examination of global-scale patterns, systems, and processes. We will examine effects of projected changes in average climate as well as in extreme climate and climate-related events (e.g., droughts, floods, wildfires, hurricanes).
