Ethnomusicological methods, theorizing, and research practice. Current issues in monographs, journals, and anthologies. Fieldwork practicum. prereq: instr consent
Class Description:
This course offers an introduction to the theory and practice of ethnomusicology. In addition to surveying a range of classic musical ethnographies, seminar participants will also have to opportunity to produce their own original accounts of musical practices in the Twin Cities. Readings also will include excursions into anthropology, philosophy, acoustics, and other related fields.
