This course examines the history of the U.S. between the War of 1812 and the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861. We will examine the dramatic expansion in population and territory, onset of transportation, communications, and the industrial revolutions, forced removal of Native Americans, slavery, reform efforts of the 1830s and 1840s, growth and maturation of political parties, and coming of the Civil War.
