Why did the French Revolution happen? Can a revolution start in a theater? Where did we get the idea of "human rights"?
What do people study in the Program in French and Francophone Studies?
This class, taught in English, will answer these questions and inspire many more. You will discuss a play in small groups, engage in a role-playing game set during the French Revolution, and hear presentations from all members of the French faculty about what they study.
You can take French 1501/1502 as a freestanding class or at the same time as a language class (French 1001 - 1004 or 3015 - 3016, depending on your level).
The class will be required for new majors and minors in French Studies, starting fall 2016, but you can take it even if you don't think you want to major or minor, or haven't yet made up your mind!
