- Class Description:
- This course is a "continuation" of the beginning sequence of Finnish 1001 and 1002. It will continue the fundamentals of conversational and written Finnish on a more advanced level. A heavy emphasis is given to spoken Finnish, but all four aspects of language learning are stressed: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Its main objective is to make the student proficient in Finnish. Of particular concern is the Proficiency Examination for course credit as part of the College of Liberal Arts requirements. Therefore, daily listening exercises and journal writing are to be stressed. There will be a quiz every week. The format of the quizzes vary; they can be word tests, dictations, translations, comprehension tests. Text: "Finnish for Foreigners 2", Maija-Hellikki Aaltio, plus "Exercises 2", Aaltio. Qualified students may register for this course as Finnish 4003, for 2 credits (and lower tuition) instead of four credits.
