Class Description:
Advanced Students: To qualify as an advanced student, you have to have completed intermediate painting. You will be working on self driven paintings based on your own painterly concerns. This is an advanced studio course that will focus on contemporary approaches to painting. We will develop the verbal and analytical skills necessary to critically examine your work and the work of your peers. We will look at a number of contemporary painters, and talk about the importance and relevance of painting in the digital age. We will read and discuss a variety of writings, talks, and interviews from contemporary painters in order to understand how other painters think about their work. In place of a reader, there is a blog for this course. This is where I will post videos, readings and images that will be discussed in class.
