Course Catalog Description:
Processes fundamental to cells. Emphasizes eukaryotic cells. Assembly/function of membranes/organelles. Cell division, cell form/movement, intercellular communication, transport, secretion pathways. Cancer cells, differentiated cells. prereq: BIOL 3020 or BIOL 4003 or grad MSB
Class Notes:
CBS students - The Biol 3020 prereq will be waived if you have taken Biol 4003 Genetics course. Contact Sue at smk@umn.edu with questions or permission number inquiries.
Class Description:
This course is a junior/senior-level course in cell biology that follows the text of Alberts' et al. (Molecular Biology of the Cell). The course has a significant active learning component while not reducing the range of topics (see catalog description and class schedule) and the amount of cell biology that is presented in a standard lecture-format cell biology course at the U of M. The class is likely to have about one half the size of a typical lecture section of Biol 4004.
