- Speaking, reading, writing Japanese. Meets with 1012. prereq: 4001
- Class Description:
- This course is the second of a two-semester sequence of Beginning Japanese. It aims to develop communication skills in Japanese. Therefore, students will continue learning the four skills of language (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) as well as culture-specific skills (dos and don'ts). The items that will be covered in this semester include but are not limited to: 1. Describing appearance, 2. Reporting, 3. Giving an opinion or advice, 4. Describing a plan, intention, or desire, and 5. Making comparisons. The course will cover Lessons 7 through 12 of Genki (Refer to COURSE MATERIALS below), including both dialogue/grammar and reading/writing. It is expected that, by the end of this semester, students will be able to use the above functions to talk about family and friends, describe health concerns, and so on. Students also will be able to read and write short paragraphs, such as a letter or a report. To facilitate literacy, students will learn 87 kanji or Chinese characters (a total of 145 for JPN1011-1012).
