Class Description:

Prerequisites: FREN 3015; completion of FREN 3016 strongly recommended.

France is the U.S. third largest trading partner in Europe and a world leader in industry, finance, information-technology and tourism. Over 4,500 French companies conduct business in the U.S. In French 3022 you will develop your interpretive (reading, listening), presentational (writing) and interpersonal
(speaking) skills while studying business French content.

Themes addressed in the course are: business creation, product/service development and marketing, business travel, communication (letters, e-mail, phone) with business partners, cross-cultural communication in meetings, events planning and management, job search (resume and application letters writing, interview practice).

The course is framed around ‘français de l'entreprise' tasks from Paris CCI (Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie) and will focus on authentic/real-life communicative and situational tasks (simulations, case studies). Your final project will be a group-marketing project for a product/service of your choice. The course will allow you to enhance your written and oral cross-cultural communication skills, gain insights into current socio-economic issues in France (which businesses are currently successful in France and in the U.S. and why), and develop a better understanding of France-US similarities and differences in job search, employment and work practices. This course is web-enhanced and will allow you to further develop your linguistic and intercultural communication competence outside of class.
