Course Catalog Description:
Survey of small group communication research; theory and practice. Group decision-making and leadership. prereq: 3411 or instr consent
Class Description:
COMM 5411 focuses on communication in decision making groups. Theories addressed concern leadership, group development, and normative approaches to decision quality. Each of these areas is addressed from three perspectives--reductionistic, organistic, and systemic. The first implies that communication has no role in group outcomes, the second treats communication at the group, rather than at the individual, level, and the last addresses the connection between individual level process and emergent group outcomes. Final grades are determined by scoring on two tests and a final project.
