Course Catalog Description:
Interdisciplinary, collaborative artist teams explore modes of creative expression at intersections of the arts. Students collaborate to co-author/produce works of art for pubic presentation. Emphazes integration of media arts with visual art, music, dance, and theater to produce interdisciplinary/collaborative art. prereq: Upper-division undergraduate or graduate student in art, creative writing, dance, music or theater.
Class Description:
The course is centered on collaborations. These are realized through a series of collaborative sketches that synthesizes the ideas, inspirations, and questions that emerge over the course of the semester. Introductions to conceptual, spatial, social, and technological catalysts and processes, discussions of short readings, guest presentations, and visits to on and off campus sites, will inform and catalyze these new works. This course responds to student interest in university-wide, interdisciplinary, collaborations by creating a dynamic context that centers the arts while supporting students in the process of developing new, collaborative work that is personally meaningful, charged with passion, and experimental in nature. As part of our process,we will explore the modality of consider the concept of the 99%"> motivated, and investigate forms of collaboration across disciplines and modalities. Working with creative catalysts Prof Bo Zheng, City University of Hong Kong and Prof Diane Willow, UMN, we will begin the Spring 2018 semester by developing new collaborative works that will activate Politics of Weeds, an experiential exhibition in the Nash Gallery.
