- Introduction to sculptural practice. Materials, methods, concepts, history. Emphasizes correlation between concepts and materials. Creative work in clay, plaster, metal, and wood.
- Class Description:
- This course is an introduction to sculptural concepts, practices, and materials. Creative sculptural development and language will be explored by utilizing assigned class projects, class presentations, participation in class critiques, field trips, assigned readings, and sketchbooks. You will be expected to thoroughly investigate your creative ideas while challenging and questioning the roles sculpture plays in contemporary society. You will be responsible for three projects, written and oral critiques, and a visual research presentation.

- Class Format:
- This a visual arts studio practice based class with lectures and field trips. Class will meet during regularly scheduled hours in the classroom. The class will also meet outside the classroom during the scheduled class time. The class may also meet other days of the week for outside events, field trips, and guest artist and curator speakers -- these events may be scheduled on a weekly basis -- and are subject to change.
- Workload:
- 6 hours of class work per week is expected of each student (3 of those 6 work hours may take place during studio/lab work time in class)
