THIS COURSE FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY!!! If you plan on registering for this section of SPAN 1001 you must contact the Department of Spanish & Portuguese Studies at spanport@umn.edu.
Class Description:
This course is strictly for students who have less than two years of high school Spanish. Permission numbers are required in order to register for this course. Students should bring their high school transcripts and an ID card to Folwell Hall 214 to obtain a permission number. Spanish 1001/4001 focuses on the development of communication skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. One day a week students will watch "Destinos", an educational television program in Spanish. The text, "Gente" third ed (Tercera) is accompanied by a workbook. Grammar is covered in the homework assignments and reinforced in class with a variety of paired and small group activities. Spanish is spoken almost exclusively in class. Since the majority of class time is devoted to speaking and listening, class attendance is critical.
