The overall goal of this course is to introduce students to the concepts, principles, and underlying technologies of Geovisualization and cartographic design. If you participate fully and complete this course, by the end, you should be able to
- discuss underlying principles of Geovisualization and outline its scope and applications.
- identify and discuss different types of Geovisualization techniques and their suitability for visual exploration and mapping geospatial phenomena and their patterns.
- develop interactive maps and geographic visualizations in 2D, 3D, and Web environments for both spatial and spatiotemporal data sets.
- locate and use suitable commercial software packages and open source tools for Geovisualization.
- describe and apply the principles of map abstraction, cartographic animation, 3D visualizations, and Web maps.
- design and create interactive, dynamic, and abstract maps using programming with Processing.
