Class Description:
In my CHN5393 course in the spring semester, we will be reading about two dozen pieces of classical Chinese poetry and prose writings, including some of the most well-known works by Confuciu, Mencius, Zhuangzi, Tao Yuanming, Li Bai, Du Fu, Bai Juyi, Liu Yuxi, Su Dongpo, Fan Zhongyan, Zhou Dunyi, Ouyang Xiu, Liu Yong, and so on. After taking this course, students will be able to know the meaning of some of the most commonly used words and learn some basic grammar in classical Chinese. This course will enable students to read some simple classical Chinese works on their own.
