- Class Description:
COMM 3402 offers a broad overview of the study of the messages and patterns of communication that connect individuals. Our focus will be on the development of relationships as they are affected by, and reflected in, communication. We concentrate primarily on romantic relationships and friendships, although some discussion of family and professional relationship is included. The course begins with initial interaction between strangers as they develop into friends, lovers, and, in some cases, couples with long-term commitments. We will cover such topics as understanding and misunderstanding, the communication of interpersonal needs, intimacy, love, deception, and conflict.
