Class Description:
With recent public leadership failures at all levels of government and business, the question of how to identify and develop strong authentic and ethical leaders for the 21st century is an important societal problem, one being tackled by education, government and in the corporate boardroom. This course is the capstone experience for HRIR majors and is intended to aid students with a)integrating and applying experience from prior coursework and b)becoming effective and ethical leaders. The course is focused on preparing HR majors (or other interested undergraduate students) to develop programs and assist in the creation of corporate cultures and strategies that nurture and support effective and authentic leadership. This course is also focused on preparing students themselves to become effective, authentic leaders-whether it is in business, government, society, or in the classroom, the neighborhood, or the family. As a participant in the course, students will be expected to read and write, interview leaders, watch films, participate in group discussions and exercises, research organizational practices in leadership development, as well as to solicit feedback from others and to discuss their strengths and vulnerabilities as a person and as a leader with their classmates.
