- Class Description:
- A consumer or business manager is continuously faced with financial choices. For the consumer these choices include, financing a purchase, saving for retirement and evaluating investment products. For a business manager the choices include deciding which projects and approaches to provide funds for these projects. Regardless of your ultimate career, a solid understanding of the fundamentals of finance will serve you well. This course will explore the basic principles of finance and financial management and apply them to the main decisions faced by the financial manager: Value maximization and the finance model of the firm, financial markets and securities, time value of money, risk and return, and evaluating investment projects. By the end of this course you should be able to: Use discounted cash flow analysis to determine the value added of business decisions or the fair market vale of investments. Understand the basic types of financial instruments used by firms. Understand the basic principles of efficient markets, risk and return and capital structure. Develop cashflow projections from accounting data. Perform basic financial statement analysis. The course assumes that you have completed introductory courses in basic algebra, accounting, micro and macroeconomics, and statistics. If you have not taken these courses do not register for this course as you will find the concepts introduced in this course difficult.
