Course Catalog Description:
Introduction to principles underlying assessment/conservation of plant biodiversity at individual, population, and community levels. Case studies in management of biodiversity to restore or maintain ecosystem function. Genetics, timber harvesting, invasive species, plant reproduction.
Class Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to concepts in biodiversity and efforts to conserve and restore biodiversity in plant populations. Topics include evolutionary forces, Endangered Species Act, species restoration, impact of harvesting forest species, intellectual property rights, invasive species, ecosystem stability and climate change among others. A combination of lectures, field trips, and discussions will be used to illustrate principles.
