Course Description This course will introduce students to a multidimensional approach to conceptualizing various types of psychological disorders. During this course, students will be responsible for learning basic descriptive psychopathology as described in the DSM-IV-TR as well as descriptive information including prevalence rates, ages of onset, and cultural differences. An introductory overview to some of the causes and treatments of psychopathology will be provided to the extent that it helps students understand the various mental disorders. A prerequisite for this course is PSY 1001.

You work independently, not as part of a student group. The field of abnormal psychology (also known as psychopathology) is diverse, as you can see by leafing through the textbook for this course. Class Description:
This course will provide an introduction and broad background to the classification of psychological disorders. Students will learn the classification system used in the DSM-IV-TR, as well as important diagnostic, etiological, and treatment related information. While etiology and treatment will be discussed in some detail, the bulk of the material will focus on the description and classification of psychological disorders. A prerequisite for this course is PSY1001.
