Class Description:
This course is the first of a two-semester sequence of intermediate Ojibwe. The overall goal of this course is to develop an intermediate level of proficiency in the Ojibwe language. Students will build upon their foundational knowledge of the Ojibwe language and strengthen their skills in listening, writing, reading, and speaking. The course will focus on basic grammatical structures and vocabulary related to a variety of topics relevant to everyday life. The course will also cover language-learning strategies necessary to learning an endangered language. Ojibwe cultural topics will be discussed as they relate to language and communication. Instruction will be in both Ojibwe and English with an increasing emphasis on immersion methodology. By the end of this course students will be able to communicate in the language on a variety of familiar topics.
