- In this course, undergraduates will gain experience learning how to write and critique peer-reviewed articles related to youth and youth activism and create a collaborative annotated bibliography. They will also create projects and curricula focused on youth activism and collaborate with middle school youth and local activists at MYSS' partner schools. Throughout the course, undergraduates will examine and learn about specific topics such as mutual aid, street art and murals, and protests as well as the legacy and histories of settler colonialism, systemic racism, disaster tourism, and environmental justice. All of the work that is produced in this course will utilize an intersectional approach to these specific topics, emphasizing the ways that race, gender, class, sexuality, and disability shape youths' lives. Through these collaborative and creative projects, undergraduates will explore youths' engagements with specific topics as they create poetry, artwork, and/or media that amplifies youths' perspectives. The work in this course is intended to be reflective, collective, and critical in all forms.
