- This course offers an interdisciplinary exploration of the concept of ethnic and racial identities (social identities that are cross-cut by gender, class, nationality, etc.), focusing on the ways that electronic media help shape, and are shaped by ethnicity/race. We will trace how identity categories (themselves always unstable) intersect and change over time and across nations, borders, and individuals. Course readings and discussions will examine a variety of media texts, including film, television, sport and the Internet.
