Management of a new venture after founding. Internal/external challenges of managing a startup organization. Working with resource constraints and understanding how business models may change over time. prereq: concurrent registration is required (or allowed) in [3010 or IBUS 3010]
Class Notes:
Remote: All instruction will be fully online with set meeting patterns. Students must be online at the scheduled days and times. In addition, instructors may provide supplemental content that students can engage with any time or within a certain time frame. The instructors might be available for limited in-person interactions. However, in-person interactions will be optional if available. Students will have a very similar experience whether on campus or off campus.
Class Description:
This course focuses on developing the students ability to manage a business enterprise. It explores how business models change from start-up through maturity, as well as key challenges at each stage of growth. It also explores organizational leadership methodologies as they pertain to stakeholder management, strategic planning, management development, control systems, financial analysis and financing. This course concludes with the employment of course learning through the examination of a live case. Key Learning Objectives: 1) Understand business growth and the typical problems encountered 2) Understand the challenges of a growing business and how to manage growth and change 3) Learn how to assess the interests of key stakeholders and how to manage these relationships 4) Sharpen entrepreneurship skills and competencies of problem-solving, decision-making, communication, innovation, sales, negotiations and leadership
