Course Catalog Description:
Selected topics/problems of current interest considered in depth. prereq: MBA 6210, MBA students
Class Notes:
This course develops a critical skill for any marketer, manager, or consultant - creating a concrete strategic plan to capture market opportunities. Students will gain hands-on experience using a structured framework to evaluate a market opportunity, and then to develop an ongoing market strategy. The end result will be a new ability to create persuasive marketing plans, using a mix of qualitative and quantitative analyses, that ultimately gain management support for strategic recommendations. The specific skills gained will include (i) identifying a new opportunity in terms of unmet customer needs and potential category size; (ii) creating a market strategy that defines the target, value proposition, and competitive advantage; (iii) developing an execution plan to include product features, pricing, advertising, and distribution; and (iv) projecting future financial results by forecasting the rate of market adoption and assuming a cost structure. Students may find it beneficial to have already taken MKTG 6088 or to take it concurrently.
